Do y’all remember that song by Will Smith? That was my jam in Middle School. We recently took a family trip to Miami. My husband and I have been once before. We wanted the kids to have some fun in the sun and play at the beach, so we packed our bags and headed to the Sunshine State. Here are some of the highlights of our trip.

We stayed at The Confidante located in Miami Beach. I loved the aesthetic of the hotel. It was built in the 1940s and has a lot of characteristics that give tribute to that cool 1940s retro vibe. Fun fact, Dua Lupa shot a music video there. When I saw the multi-colored striped cabanas, I was sold! It has a cool pool area that provides a pool for families and a separate pool for adults. Our kids loved the pool! They preferred to hang out more at the pool than the beach. The Confidante is an oceanfront hotel so the beach was easily accessible and beach chair rentals were included in the resort fee. Waiters are available at the beach and pool area to provide food/beverage service.

Our friends live in Miami, so we met up with them downtown at the Brickell City Centre for dinner. It was a really neat place. The Brickell City Centre design is a cool indoor/outdoor concept. It is filled with shops, food, and much more. We chose to try out a new asian/latin fusion restaurant called CH’I. It has multiple areas to eat and have drinks: the restaurant, the garden, the lounge, and the mercado. Unfortunately, reservations for the restaurant were booked so we weren’t able to check it out, but we were able to eat outside the mercado. We really enjoyed the shrimp enchilados dumplings and the sweet & spicy fried chicken bao buns.

So, I love tacos, like they are literally my favorite food. I can’t resist a good street taco. It’s definitely my go-to comfort food. Growing up, my grandma would make us tacos anytime we would visit. I am always on the hunt for good tacos when we travel. Our friends suggested that we check out the Wynwood/Design District to eat at a taco joint they love called Coyo Taco. The line was super long when we got there, like out the door and to the sidewalk long. That’s always a good sign, right? It took a lot of convincing and encouragement for our children to wait in line, but they were troopers. I ordered tacos al pastor. The corn tortilla had a good consistency, while the pineapples and onions cooked with the pork were delicious. I was in taco heaven!

We walked around the Wynwood/Design District to check out the shops and beautiful wall murals to help wake us from our food coma. The streets are jammed packed with all kinds of street art and it was a fun area to take pictures and selfies.

Miami was a fun getaway, and it was great catching up with old friends. Miami is a vibrant city. I highly recommend adding it as a potential vacation spot!
