We decided to take a quick trip to the river for my birthday. It didn’t hurt that one of my favorite country bands was playing that weekend right off the river. We loaded up our stuff, grabbed our floats, and hopped in the car with our friends for a fun road trip!
We found a cute Airbnb in Canyon Lake. The spot was ideal because it was 10 to 15 minutes away from the concert location and about 10 minutes to the Guadalupe River. We arrived pretty late that night, unpacked, and hit the hay.
But First Breakfast
We woke up, packed the car with floats, drinks, sunscreen and snacks. We headed to get some breakfast at Wildflour Artisan Bakery & Grill. I had the Loaded BLT. It was delicious!! I was more excited about the cake and pie selection. Since it was my birthday, I decided to go with the Rainbow Cake because what else would you have for your birthday, right?! River Time
This was my first time floating the Guadalupe River. In the past I have floated the Comal River. We parked the car, aired up our floats, lathered on sunscreen, filled our cups with drinks, and headed down to the river. I was especially excited about this float because we would be floating past the concert venue where we would later hear the band, Midland. Once we got down to the river, we put our floats in the water and were given a shock to our system. The water was FREEZING! It was like an ice bath. It took a few minutes to adjust but once we were in the sun and the hot Texas heat, it became really refreshing.
The water is definitely more on the slower pace. We had to paddle along for a few minutes to get ourselves moving, but the current eventually picked up. We sat back, listened to music, talked and laughed. It was fun to people watch. The best thing was being around nature and relaxing. It took us about 3 hours to float from start to finish.
Good Food & Music
By the end of the float, we were starving. We rushed back to the house and got ready for dinner. We headed to the River Rose Tavern for drinks and food. It is right up the street from the concert venue, so it made it easy to grab a bite before the show. This is my second time here and it hasn’t disappointed. We enjoy sitting out on the patio area to listen to the live music. The chicken tacos served on the patio are pretty good. The cherry limeade shots are my ALL time favorite!
Concert
The concert venue was packed. Midland put on a pretty good show. We drank, danced and sang. I was ending my birthday with a bang!
Here to another trip around the sun! I can’t wait to see where my next birthday adventure will take us!
